CONCORD - On Monday, the Commission to Study Offshore Wind and Port Development conducted their first meeting. The commission, formed through the passage of HB 1245 which included text from Senator David Watters’ (D-Dover) bill, SB 668, will investigate the economic development opportunities for New Hampshire in supply chain needs, port capabilities, workforce development, energy procurement, transmission and storage, and fisheries and marine environment, to ensure the success of offshore wind in the Gulf of Maine. During the meeting, Senator David Watters was elected Chair, Michael Behrmann of Clean Energy NH was elected Vice Chair, and Mark Laliberte of the NH Division of Economic Development was elected as Clerk.

Following the meeting, Senator David Watters (D-Dover) issued this statement:

“New Hampshire is uniquely positioned when it comes to the development of offshore wind as a source of renewable energy. As we continue to move towards renewable energy sources, the input of stakeholders will be invaluable as we prepare necessary laws and ensure that the needs of New Hampshire ratepayers are met. The work of this commission will put New Hampshire in the best possible position to take full advantage of the associated job development, education, and economic expansion that comes with the development of the industry.”
