CONCORD – Deputy Senate Democratic Leader Cindy Rosenwald (D-Nashua) and Senator Jay Kahn (D-Keene) issued the following statements in response to a recent post by Representative James Spillane (R-Deerfield) that included antisemitic propaganda imagery:
“Last night the country watched what happens when hate speech is given a national platform,” said Deputy Senate Democratic Leader Cindy Rosenwald (D-Nashua). “We saw a violent attack on the Capitol. Today the nation is grieving as our democracy was threatened by a mob incited by our President. This cannot continue. Representative Spillane’s social media post references a stereotype that has led to genocide. I am appalled and would encourage the newly elected House leadership to step up, publicly denounce his actions, and request his resignation.”
“Last month, lawmakers across the state came together to denounce the antisemitic social media post of Representative Dawn Johnson, pledging that intolerance has no place in the New Hampshire State House,” added Senator Jay Kahn (D-Keene). “Earlier this week, Representative Jim Spillane joined her in publicly promoting antisemitic imagery. Just last year, New Hampshire came together to expand our definition of an adequate education to include Holocaust and genocide education because we understand that without a firm understanding of our history, we run the risk of repeating it. Our New Hampshire government needs to raise the standards expected of public officials that includes prohibiting demeaning or inciting hate that discriminates against people.”
