CONCORD – Today, the Senate voted to pass SB 407, also known as the Healthy Moms, Healthy Babies Act of 2022 on a voice vote. Prime sponsored by Senator Sue Prentiss (D-West Lebanon), SB 407 will amend the state Medicaid plan to provide 12 months of continuous coverage for new moms and babies at the most vulnerable time, which is during the postpartum period. The bill will next be sent to the Senate Finance Committee.
Prime Sponsor Senator Sue Prentiss (D - West Lebanon) issued the following statement after the vote:
“In Fiscal Year 2019, 762, or 27% of pregnant women lost Medicaid coverage 60 days postpartum when they did not qualify for coverage under the Granite Advantage. SB 407 bridges this gap and provides essential access to health care to new mothers during one of the most vulnerable periods of their lives. I am extremely grateful that my colleagues all agree, New Hampshire families cannot afford wait for care. I look forward to bringing this bill before the Senate Finance Committee and continuing to advocate for the wellbeing of New Hampshire mothers and babies.”
