CONCORD - Today, Senate Republicans rejected an amendment from the Senate Democratic caucus to appropriate $9 million in ARPA funds for the purpose of providing homeless prevention services.
After the vote, Senator Cindy Rosenwald (D-Nashua) and Senator Kevin Cavanaugh (D-Manchester) issued the following statement:
“New Hampshire’s homeless shelter service system is in desperate need of assistance as we move forward from the nationwide economic turmoil that has drastically exacerbated a growing crisis. In Nashua, there are 300 homeless students, in Manchester, as many as 900. The funds presented to the Senate to expand access to homeless services had previously been passed twice by the Senate through SB 140 with unanimous or near unanimous votes. It is therefore disappointing to see that previous support for our homeless population revoked today.”
