CONCORD – Today, Senate Republicans voted to refer SB 254, the Democratic proposal for redrawing the lines for the Executive Council Districts to Interim Study.
After the vote, Senate Democratic Leader Donna Soucy (D-Manchester) and Senator Rebecca Perkins Kwoka (D-Portsmouth) issued the following statements:
Senate Democratic Leader Donna Soucy (D-Manchester) stated, “It is extremely disappointing that we couldn’t deliver an improved Executive Council map for the people of New Hampshire today. Senate Democrats worked diligently to craft our proposal for the Executive Council districts as presented in SB 254. Our plan reflected what we heard loud and clear from constituents across the state - prioritize communities of interest and correct the blatantly gerrymandered District 2. Today’s vote represents a disservice to the people of New Hampshire.”
Senator Rebecca Perkins Kwoka (D-Portsmouth) “Throughout this process, Senate Democrats have been willing to come to the table and work in an open and bipartisan fashion to find a solution to the deeply gerrymandered Executive Council districts. The failure of my Republican colleagues to advance a reasonable proposal to improve the districts is very revealing about Republicans’ priorities, as they would clearly rather leave gerrymandered districts in place for another 10 years than work together to deliver for the people we all represent what they asked for: fair maps.”
