CONCORD – Today, the Senate passed SB 126, Senator Perkins Kwoka’s (D-Portsmouth) bill to make adjustments to landlord tenant law, giving more flexibility to tenants who may be struggling to pay their rent, in a vote of 24-0.
After the vote, Senator Rebecca Perkins Kwoka (D-Portsmouth) issued the following statement:
“It is more important than ever to craft our policies with compassion, and ensure we are keeping our friends and neighbors in their homes in a way that is most fair to all. This legislation creates a critical guardrail for tenants struggling to pay their rent, protects landlords’ incomes, and will help to ensure situations don’t hit a crisis point before they can be remedied. This bill was a highly negotiated compromise and I am proud of the bipartisan support it received.”
