CONCORD – Today, Senate Democrats pushed back against a letter sent by Senate Republicans to New Hampshire’s federal delegation regarding President Biden’s efforts to protect public health and safety.
Senate Democratic Leader Donna Soucy (D-Manchester), Senator Sue Prentiss (D-West Lebanon), and Senator Tom Sherman (D-Rye) issued the following statements in response:
Senate Democratic Leader Donna Soucy: “There is absolutely no reason to fight against vaccination efforts beyond scoring political points with the extreme far right. I am extremely disappointed that my Republican colleagues would rather encourage further vaccine hesitancy than take steps like education to protect public health and safety.”
Senator Sue Prentiss: “The vaccine is the way out. We have heard it over and over again. New Hampshire needs a unified approach in our response to COVID-19. The split that is created when elected officials actively work against federal direction and support will only prolong the pandemic’s impact in New Hampshire.”
Senator Tom Sherman: “New Hampshire prides itself on our sense of individual responsibility. We take responsibility for our actions, as well as the safety and well-being of our families, our neighbors, communities, and our state — that has always been the New Hampshire way. This extreme Republican effort to shirk individual responsibility by discouraging taking the vaccine, our single most potent weapon against COVID, is dangerous, disheartening, irresponsible, and certainly not the New Hampshire way.”
