CONCORD – Today, Senator Cindy Rosenwald (D-Nashua) introduced SB 399 to the Senate Judiciary Committee. SB 399 repeals the Republican abortion ban inserted into the state budget which prohibits a health care provider from performing an abortion after 24 weeks and has no exceptions for rape, incest, or fatal fetal anomalies, and requires mandatory ultrasounds for all individuals seeking abortions. Prior to the hearing, 65% of people registering their opinion online had indicated their support for SB 399.
After the hearing, prime sponsor Senator Cindy Rosenwald (D-Nashua) issued the following statement:
“The Republican abortion ban is the ultimate display of government overreach. Legislators have no place inserting themselves into these extremely private and personal decisions. Legislators have no place telling a survivor of rape or incest that their bodies are no longer their own but instead the property of the state. Legislators have no place forcing mandatory, expensive ultrasounds on every person seeking an abortion. And legislators have no place criminalizing our doctors for doing what is right by their patients. I am proud to bring forward SB 399 and will continue to advocate for the repeal of the Republican abortion ban.”
