CONCORD – Today, the Senate Election Law and Municipal Affairs Committee took public testimony on the redistricted Senate and Executive Council maps presented by Senator Jim Gray and Senate Democratic Leader Donna Soucy.
Following the hearing, Senate Democratic Leader Donna Soucy and Senator Rebecca Perkins Kwoka issued the following statements:
Senate Democratic Leader Donna Soucy (D-Manchester) stated, “I want to thank everyone who took the time to testify before the committee, registered their opinions online, and submitted written testimony. As we work to redraw our legislative district lines, it is this kind of input from the people we represent that should guide our efforts. I was pleased to present the Democratic proposals for both the Senate and Executive Council districts. Our proposal is fair, prioritizes adequate representation, and keeps communities of interest together. I look forward to working with my colleagues to ensure we develop a final proposal that responds to the concerns Granite Staters have shared with us and that represents the interests of the people we were elected to serve.”
Senator Rebecca Perkins Kwoka (D-Portsmouth) added, “The redistricting process is some of the most important work we are tasked with as legislators. It is a huge responsibility, and one that we do not take lightly. We need to ensure that the political landscape of our state is fair, competitive, and is a true reflection of the constituents we all represent. I look forward to participating in robust ongoing conversations and working in a bipartisan fashion to craft the fairest and most non-biased proposals possible for the future of our state.”
