CONCORD – Today, following Governor Sununu’s budget address, Senate Democratic Leader Donna Soucy (D-Manchester) and Deputy Senate Democratic Leader Cindy Rosenwald (D-Nashua) issued the following statements:
“As with any budget address, there will be issues where we find agreement and others that require debate and more work. I was happy to hear about the continuation of the Medicaid rate increase established in the last budget, as well as the Governor’s support of my legislation to increase the threshold for filing BPT,” stated Senate Democratic Leader Donna Soucy (D-Manchester). “While I am encouraged by the Governor’s projected enthusiasm for our public schools, the massive cut in his expenditures for education is a major cause for concern that I expect will lead to robust conversation.”
“The Governor’s optimism of an increased business tax revenue while instituting business tax cuts is completely counterintuitive,” added Deputy Senate Democratic Leader Cindy Rosenwald (D-Nashua). “Several of his proposed measures could very quickly lead to shortfalls that will be left to fill by New Hampshire's property taxpayers. In this budget proposal, Governor Sununu has increased the projected federal funds by roughly $445 million over the biennium. We are all grateful to the hard work of our federal delegation in securing critical funding for New Hampshire and I look forward to the Governor’s positive dialogue with our colleagues in Washington D.C. on how to best use the incoming funds.”
