CONCORD – Earlier today, NEA-NH announced that a broad coalition of educators, advocacy groups, and law firms had filed a lawsuit challenging New Hampshire Republicans’ censorship of free speech when it comes to teaching “divisive concepts” like racism and sexism in our classrooms.
Senate Democratic Leader Donna Soucy (D-Manchester) issued the following statement following the announcement:
“The impacts of the Republican gag rule have already been felt by educators across New Hampshire. Vague restrictions around what can and cannot be taught in our schools have created confusion and fear in our classrooms and our children’s education will be limited as conversations about our history and current events are silenced. I am proud to support NEA-NH, the National Education Association, the ACLU, the ACLU of New Hampshire, Disability Rights Center – New Hampshire, and GLBTQ Legal Advocates & Defenders in their efforts to ensure our children receive a comprehensive and inclusive education.”
