CONCORD - Today, Senator Sue Prentiss (D-West Lebanon) introduced SB 407, which is the Healthy Moms, Healthy Babies Act of 2022. This legislation will amend the state Medicaid plan to provide 12 months of continuous coverage for new moms and babies at the most vulnerable time, which is during the postpartum period. Following the public hearing, the committee moved into Executive Session and unanimously voted the bill Ought to Pass. It will next be brought before the full Senate for a vote after which point it will be sent to the Finance Committee.
After the vote, prime sponsor Senator Sue Prentiss (D-West Lebanon) issued the following statement:
“Currently, some mothers in New Hampshire become eligible for Medicaid coverage under what’s known as the pregnancy pathway for 60 days after giving birth. However, this group is not covered under the Granite Advantage. With this bill, we have an opportunity to take advantage of federal matching dollars available to New Hampshire under the American Rescue Plan to cover these moms for a full 12 months after giving birth. Our moms, their babies, and families cannot wait. I’m pleased that the committee is taking the opportunity to close the gap, provide coverage, and ensure access to health care for New Hampshire families, mothers, and babies, giving our youngest and most precious citizens a solid foundation for life.”
