CONCORD – Today, in a vote of 4-1, the Senate Commerce Committee voted Inexpedient to Legislate on HB 227 which adds the expiration of the term of the lease or tenancy if over 6 months as grounds for an eviction.

After the vote, Senate Democratic Leader Donna Soucy (D-Manchester) issued the following statement:

“New Hampshire is already suffering from low vacancy rates across the state. Particularly now, as we begin to emerge from a period of mass economic instability and the end of the eviction moratorium, this bill would do nothing but create more barriers to keeping people in their homes. There is no need to upset the current balance between landlord/tenant laws. No one should lose their home without good cause and I am grateful for today’s committee vote that supports renters across the Granite State.”
