CONCORD – Today, in a party line vote of 3-2, Republican members of the Senate Judiciary Committee (Senators Carson, Gannon, and French) voted to gut SB 399, Senator Cindy Rosenwald’s (D-Nashua) bill to repeal the 24 week abortion ban inserted into the last budget and replace the language with a vaguely worded attempt to clarify their mandatory ultrasound requirement. The bill will next go before the full Senate for a vote.
After the vote, prime sponsor Senator Cindy Rosenwald (D-Nashua) issued the following statement:
“After hours of testimony, hundreds of emails, poll after poll stating that New Hampshire does not support the Republican 24-week abortion ban, Republicans have chosen to ignore the vast majority of Granite Staters and double down on their deeply unpopular abortion ban. The amendment presented today, gutting SB 399 and replacing it with vague language attempting to clarify their mandatory ultrasound requirement shows that they are not listening to their constituents and would rather stand by their poorly conceived, cruel policy.”
