CONCORD – Today, the Republican members of the Joint Committee on Legislative Facilities voted to remove the General Court of New Hampshire Face Coverings Policy. During the meeting, Democratic members asked if public health officials had been consulted prior to the discussion. While it was clear that Dr. Ballard had been consulted regarding the upcoming Senate in person session, it was unclear if he had offered guidance regarding the removal of the state house mask mandate.
After the vote, Senate Democratic Leader Donna Soucy (D-Manchester) and Deputy Senate Democratic Leader Cindy Rosenwald (D-Nashua) issued the following statement:
“Today’s vote by the Republican members of the Joint Committee on Legislative Facilities to remove the state house mask mandate was a dangerous decision that unnecessarily puts the health of both elected officials and the General Court staff at risk. This premature decision shows a blatant disregard for public health and the CDC’s recommendations regarding wearing masks indoors was nothing more than political grandstanding.”
