CONCORD – Last week, Governor Sununu signed SB 137, Senator Jeb Bradley’s (R-Wolfeboro) bill to freeze the tipped minimum wage at $3.27 per hour.
Senate Democratic Leader Donna Soucy (D-Manchester) issued the following statement in response:
“Despite the fact that New Hampshire has the lowest minimum wage in New England with a gap that ranges between $4.75-$6 less per hour than states like Vermont and Massachusetts, Republicans continue to remain stalwart in their opposition to providing a living wage. By freezing the rate at $3.27 per hour, Republicans are denying tipped workers even the possibility of a raise should the federal minimum wage, which New Hampshire has defaulted to for the past decade, be increased. This freeze will disproportionately hurt women who make up 79.3% of tipped workers in New Hampshire and could continue to steer workers away from the tipped industries currently facing a workforce shortage. This is an anti-worker, anti-workforce measure that further demonstrates that Republicans are not working for the majority of Granite Staters but for the wealthy minority.”
