CONCORD - Today, the GOFERR Legislative Advisory Board discussed the relief options for public schools needing to fill funding gaps left by FEMA.
After the meeting, Senate Finance Chair Lou D’Allesandro (D-Manchester), who also serves on the Governor’s Office for Economic Relief and Recovery (GOFERR) Legislative Advisory Board, released the following statement:
“Before the school year began we were already hearing about the exorbitant, unbudgeted expenses our school districts would be undertaking to combat the spread of COVID-19 - including purchases of PPE, additional cleaning and sanitation supplies, and investments in technology to ensure every student has access to an adequate education. Many districts made significant purchases with the understanding that FEMA would be reimbursing part of the cost.
When FEMA failed to deliver on that promise and revoked the funds our schools were left to foot the bill. It is absolutely critical that in next week’s vote, the GOFERR Legislative Advisory Board vote to recommend that CAREs Act funds be allocated to support our schools and our students.”
