CONCORD - Today, Governor Sununu vetoed SB 7, the Secure Modern Accurate Registration Technology (“SMART”) Act.

Prime sponsor Senator Melanie Levesque (D-Brookline) issued the following statement in response:

“It is disappointing, yet not surprising, to see Governor Sununu once again veto a cost saving, common sense measure to secure and modernize New Hampshire’s election system. The SMART Act could have lowered costs for our municipalities, reduced the amount of time spent in line on election day, and created a more streamlined and accessible registration process. I thank my House and Senate colleagues, as well as voting rights advocates across the state, for their dedication to our democracy and remain committed to working towards modern, secure, and accessible elections.”
