CONCORD - Today HB 250, a bill establishing a dental benefit under the state Medicaid program, was delivered to the Secretary of State. As amended, HB 250 mirrors the language of Senator Cindy Rosenwald’s (D-Nashua) bill, SB 754, which unanimously passed the Senate earlier this session. It next goes to the governor’s desk where he will have five business days to sign, veto, or allow the bill to become law without his signature.
Senator Cindy Rosenwald (D-Nashua) issued the following statement in response:
“Providing dental benefits for the over 100,000 adults currently enrolled in traditional and expanded Medicaid is imperative for the long term public health and economic development of the state. Working age adults who receive preventative dental care are less likely to have missing teeth or poor dental presentation. This will lead to increased employability, financial security, and will save the state money in emergency care costs. Though some members of the legislature have expressed the desire to delay the implementation of HB 250, despite having previously passed HB 754 in a unanimous vote, there is irrefutable data that supports the economic and social benefits of such services. This measure is long overdue and I urge the governor to sign HB 250 into law.”
