Protective Orders for Vulnerable Adults Sent to Governor

CONCORD - Today, HB 1660, a bill establishing a protective order for vulnerable adults, was sent to the Secretary of State. It next goes to the governor’s desk where he will have five business days to sign, veto, or allow the bill to become law without his signature.

Senator Shannon Chandley (D-Amherst) issued the following statement in response:

“Every Granite Stater deserves the right to age with dignity and live free from abuse. Unfortunately, many of our state’s older and disabled residents are subject to abuse and exploitation, without adequate tools to protect themselves. This legislation is a result of a collaborative process with the Senior Law Project at NH Legal Assistance, AARP, Alzheimer’s Association, and the Disability Rights Center and has been heavily vetted to ensure that it does not infringe on important rights and protections of others. It gives our most vulnerable adult population a mechanism to adequately protect themselves and I urge the governor to sign it into law.”
