Omnibus Bill Honoring Granite Staters Signed Into Law

CONCORD - Today, HB 1135 was signed into law. The bill incorporates several naming bills passed earlier this session to honor Granite Staters, brings recognition to important issues facing our state, and adds Holocaust and genocide studies to the definition of an adequate education.
Senator David Watters (D-Dover), Senator Jon Morgan (D-Brentwood), and Senator Jay Kahn (D-Keene) issued the following statements in response:
“Coupled with the recent passage of SB 209, which establishes a commission to create a New Hampshire recovery memorial into law, New Hampshire has taken significant steps this year to destigmatize the conversation surrounding addiction,” stated Senator David Watters (D-Dover). “For the families and loved ones of those lost to opioid addiction, I thank you for your bravery, for your stories, and hope that we may all use August 31, International Overdose Awareness Day, as a time and space to heal together”
Senator Jon Morgan (D-Brentwood) added, “Officer Stephen Arkell set a tremendous example not only for the Brentwood community, but for the entire state. As a father, a husband, a coach, and a police officer, Officer Arkell showed us all what it means to be a leader and his service will not be forgotten. As a Brentwood resident, I am honored to have this opportunity to remember Officer Arkell as we designate the Brentwood Section of Route 125 ‘Officer Stephen Arkell Highway.’”
“Only through the study and analysis of our history can we begin to work towards a future free of intolerance, bigotry, antisemitism, and national, ethnic, racial, and religious hatred and discrimination,” added Senator Jay Kahn (D-Keene). “Through education about the Holocaust and other forms of genocide, their causes, and the lessons to be drawn for the present, our students will understand the power of individual choices in preventing discrimination and genocide and be enabled “to participate in the democratic process and to make informed choices as responsible citizens.” I thank the students, teachers, religious leaders, and my colleagues in the Senate for their support and celebrate today’s signing of HB 1135.”
