CONCORD - Today, HB 1582, an omnibus bill relative to veterans protections, was signed by the Senate President. The bill, championed by Senator Jon Morgan (D-Brentwood), previously passed the Senate in a vote of 23-1 and was concurred by the House 290-36. It will next be delivered to the Secretary of State before heading to the governor’s desk where he will have five business days to sign, veto, or allow the bill to become law without his signature.
Senator Jon Morgan (D-Brentwood) issued the following statement in response:
“New Hampshire is the proud home to over 100,000 active duty, reserves, and other veterans. As a state, we have a long held tradition of respect for military service and the people who dedicate their lives to protecting our country. HB 1582 is one way we can begin to say thank you. This legislation, which includes the Veterans Bill of Rights, a bill I was honored to bring before the Legislature and that passed unanimously through the Senate, will assist our veterans to start businesses, find jobs and apprenticeships matching their skillset, obtain physical and mental health services, prevent suicide, achieve license and certification reciprocation, access educational opportunities for themselves and their families, and continue the fight to end veteran homelessness. I encourage the governor to support this bipartisan legislation and look forward to HB 1582 becoming law.”
