CONCORD - Today, HB 705, an omnibus bill enhancing protections for sexual assault victim-survivors, was signed into law.
Senator Martha Hennessey (D-Hanover) issued the following statement in response:
“Today is a victory for New Hampshire. HB 705’s passage into law is more than legislative action. It is a statement that as a state, we stand with our victims and survivors of sexual assault. It is a statement that our survivors cannot be silenced and they should not be denied justice. It is a statement that our victims and survivors are not alone. Not now, not ever. When I joined the Legislature, my top priority was increasing education around sexual assault prevention in higher education. Nationally, an estimated 1 in 5 women and 1 in 16 men are sexually assaulted while in college. Today, we have taken a significant step towards future assault prevention. I could not be prouder of the bipartisan work done by the Legislature, stakeholders, advocates, and every survivor who has bravely stepped forward to share their story in an effort to make New Hampshire a safer place to live.”
