CONCORD - Today, the New Hampshire House of Representatives met for their final legislative session of 2020 at the Whittemore Center. Following the session, Senate Majority Leader Dan Feltes (D-Concord) applauded the work of House Democrats during these unprecedented times.
“When the coronavirus pandemic hit, we all understood that drastic action would need to be taken in order to complete the work we were constitutionally elected to do. We conducted remote meetings, bipartisan calls with leadership, and committee and commission meetings on zoom with the understanding that we are stronger together. When it came time to buckle down and do the work, the House Republicans decided, at the request of Governor Sununu—who has publicly said the Legislature should have just packed up and gone home for the year—to refuse to amend deadlines and killed legislation on police reform, bipartisan net metering, child protection, the 10 year highway plan, 36 bills placed on the consent calendar, and over 200 Senate bills. This Sununu-driven political stunt jeopardized the relief that New Hampshire families and businesses so desperately need and it threatened the continuity of state government.
I commend the House Democrats for working through what could have been impossible circumstances. Rather than giving in and giving up, they got the job done. This November, voters will look to their representatives and reflect on how we stood up to protect New Hampshire through this crisis, or in the case of Sununu and the House Republicans, how they turned their back when we needed representative government most.”
