CONCORD - Today, the Senate Election Law and Municipal Affairs Committee voted 3-2 in support of HB 1665, a bipartisan bill to establish an independent advisory commission on redistricting.
After the committee vote, Senator Shannon Chandley (D-Amherst) issued the following statement:
“New Hampshire has a long and honorable tradition of informed participation in our election process. It is therefore critical that our elections be dictated by the will of the voters, not by partisan politics. Despite Governor Sununu’s veto of previous bipartisan redistricting legislation, HB 706, support for independent redistricting has grown in the legislature as voters have made clear that fair and transparent elections are critical to their trust in government. This bill, HB 1665, reforms the redistricting process so that it is independent, transparent, and ensures that communities in New Hampshire are fairly represented. I appreciate the continued support of my Senate colleagues and look forward to sending this bill to the Governor.”
