CONCORD – Today, Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee Chair Martha Fuller Clark (D-Portsmouth) urged House Republicans to override Governor Sununu’s veto of SB 159 which, if enacted, would expand net metering to both large and small businesses, all our municipalities, and any interested individual. In March, the Senate voted to overturn the veto in a vote of 17-7, it now awaits an override vote in the House.
“Expanded net metering has been a bipartisan priority for the past three years. Unfortunately, for the past three years Governor Sununu has blocked its passage,” stated Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee Chair Martha Fuller Clark (D-Portsmouth). “SB 159, sponsored by Republican Senator Jeb Bradley, is the third bipartisan net metering proposal that the governor has vetoed. This bill reflects a serious compromise from the House and Senate to address the governor’s concerns while still ensuring that municipalities, businesses, and individuals have the ability to choose their own energy futures, reduce energy costs, and reduce property taxes. In March, the Senate cast a bipartisan vote to override the governor’s veto of this commonsense legislation; House Republicans are the last hurdle for this bipartisan net metering expansion to finally become law. I urge my Republican colleagues in the House to put politics aside and do what’s right for New Hampshire by voting to override the veto on SB 159.”
