CONCORD - Today, the Senate Education and Workforce Development Committee passed amendment #1348s to HB 1454, sponsored by Senator Jeanne Dietsch (D-Peterborough), to establish a process for the application, vetting, and approval of alternative learning credits. The amendment language is pulled from Senator Dietsch’s bill, SB 514 which passed the Senate in February.
After the committee vote, amendment sponsor Senator Jeanne Dietsch (D-Peterborough) issued the following statement:
“We are committed to providing every child in New Hampshire with the academic, vocational and behavioral guidance to become productive citizens of good character, as required by our constitution. This bill broadens opportunities for students, yet maintains connections among parents, schools, and businesses. It allows districts to decide the quality of programs they approve for credit and intercede if problems arise, rather than relying on a single state board approval every few years that mandates all districts accept the credit, regardless of the outcome. We owe it to our students to provide them with options for quality programs that engage them in the learning process.”
