CONCORD - Today, the Senate Education and Workforce Development Committee passed Amendment #2020-1384s to HB 1558, an education omnibus bill. The amendment was sponsored by Senator Jay Kahn (D-Keene).
After the committee vote, Senate Education and Workforce Development Chair Jay Kahn issued the following statement:
“We want every child and teacher to have the support they need to be successful in school. This bill provides more guidance for schools to assure safety, have access to behavioral health resources, and have flexibility to address fiscal disruptions,” Senator Jay Kahn (D-Keene) stated. “Our programs must be established in a way that guarantees the right to an adequate education in a safe environment to every student. That means provisions for our special education services, creating pathways for an equitable system of representation, furthering the fiscal discussion of higher education, and implementing training and education for child sexual abuse prevention. A student’s ability to learn is directly impacted by their safety and we must take precautions to ensure an environment free from fear.”
