CONCORD—Today, the Community College System of New Hampshire announced they would be laying off 10 full-time and 10 part-time employees at The Child and Family Development Center, a childcare center located on the campus of NHTI and operated by the college, effective May 7.
Senator Dan Feltes (D-Concord) provided the following response:
“It is disappointing to learn today about the layoffs announced at the Child and Family Development Center at NHTI, which provides a critical service to Capital area families and an unmatched opportunity for experiential learning for NHTI students. My support goes out to the families and workers impacted by this decision.
Closing the CFDC was contemplated prior to COVID-19 over financial concerns. However, it's clear the benefits of training for early childhood educators and the care provided to New Hampshire children far exceeds the cost incurred by the Community College System of New Hampshire, about $280,000. The late Mary Stuart Gile fought to create this center and we should all fight to keep it.”
