CONCORD – Today, the Senate passed SB 695-FN in a vote of 14-10. This bill would require the secretary of state to enter into an agreement with the Electronic Registration Information Center (ERIC) to share voter information or data from the statewide centralized voter registration database. There are currently 30 states utilizing ERIC to securely cross reference registration information to identify if there are cases of fraudulent voting, improves the accuracy of voter rolls, helps to register eligible citizens, reduces costs, and improves efficiencies in the voting process.
After the vote, prime sponsor Senator Melanie Levesque (D-Brookline) issued the following statement:
“New Hampshire views election security as an issue of the utmost importance. The implementation of ERIC would replace the now defunct Crosscheck system and enhance our ability to guarantee secure and efficient elections. We would reduce the chances of duplicate voting, provide verification of registration whether or not the individual is in New Hampshire, and send out letters to eligible Granite State voters who have not yet registered to vote. This is an important step in modernizing out election process and I look forward to our continued work on this issue.”
