CONCORD - Today, the Senate voted 24-0 in favor of SB 572. The bill, originally presented to the Senate Judiciary Committee by Senator Martha Hennessey (D-Hanover), improves the state’s sexual assault statute and eliminates ambiguity regarding allowable sexual contact between students and school employees, contractors, coaches, and volunteers.
After the vote, prime sponsor Senator Martha Hennessey (D-Hanover) issued the following statement:
“When a student walks into school, they have the right to a quality education in a safe environment. It is our responsibility as a Legislature to ensure that they are not subject to inappropriate behavior or sexual assault by the adults responsible for their well-being. I appreciate the hard work done by members on both sides of the aisle to address this critical issue and put the safety of our children first and look forward to continued collaboration on this important issue.”
