CONCORD - Today, the Senate voted 14-10 in favor of SB 486-FN, also known as the Reproductive Health Parity Act of 2020. SB 486-FN expands on insurance plan requirements to cover maternity benefits and fertility care by adding coverage for abortion services. The requirement will apply to state-regulated commercial insurance plans and those on the marketplace.
After the vote, prime sponsor Senator Cindy Rosenwald (D-Nashua) issued the following statement:
“The Reproductive Health Parity Act builds on the progress made last session when Senate Democrats led the charge to enshrine essential health benefits of the Affordable Care Act into state law and require New Hampshire insurers to cover infertility diagnosis and treatment.
Everyone deserves reproductive health care coverage that meets their needs and gives women the right to make the decisions that are best for themselves and their families without the fear of crushing financial burden. Today’s affirmative vote on SB 486 pushes us towards joining seven other states, including Maine and Connecticut, that have already passed laws to protect patients from discriminatory attacks on abortion coverage. ”
