CONCORD - Today, the Senate voted 24-0 in favor of SB 623-FN which requires insurance coverage for perfluoroalkyls (PFAS) and perfluorinated compound (PFC) blood testing. This legislation builds on the work of two other bills this year that also seek to address New Hampshire’s drinking water and waste water crisis, SB 287-FN and SB 486.
After the vote, prime sponsor Senator Shannon Chandley (D-Amherst) issued the following statement:
“The New Hampshire Legislature has already taken significant action to clean up New Hampshire’s drinking water and prevent further contamination by PFAS chemicals, also known as forever chemicals.
While these efforts are necessary and important, the effects of previous and current contamination are not without consequence. We need to ensure access and equity to insurance coverage of PFAS and PFC blood testing. Informed patients and their medical providers will be equipped to detect and monitor disease and, as we know, early detection can lead to better outcomes than those delayed.”
