Senate Concurs on Medicaid to Schools, Provides Critical Relief to Local School Districts

CONCORD - Today, the New Hampshire Senate concurred with a House of Representatives amendment on SB 684-FN, Senator Kahn’s bill to fix the federal reimbursement problem created by emergency rules for the Medicaid to Schools program instituted by Governor Sununu’s administration. SB 684-FN reconnects school district services with federal reimbursement by qualifying school staff through health related professional licensure, removing doubts about future funding.
SB 684 will next be enrolled with the Secretary of State’s office and then go to the governor’s desk for his action at which time he will have five days to act.
After the vote, prime sponsor Senator Jay Kahn (D-Keene) issued the following statement:
“New Hampshire schools are providing crucial medical services including psychological counseling, mental health counseling, speech language pathology, and other specialized care to our students. SB 684 is critical to ensure that these school districts can resume receiving federal reimbursements through the Medicaid to Schools program for providing these services. I applaud my colleagues in the House and Senate for expediting this bill to give local school districts and professionals clear direction on reimbursement within this fiscal year. I look forward to the governor signing this bill into law.”
