CONCORD - Today, Senator David Watters (D-Dover) introduced SB 668-FN to the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee. If enacted, SB 668-FN would establish an offshore wind commission and an office of offshore wind industry development in the department of business and economic affairs. The bill is presented in parallel with the work done by the Intergovernmental Renewable Energy Task Force.
After the hearing, prime sponsor Senator David Watters (D-Dover) issued the following statement:
“The development of offshore wind as a source of renewable energy opens up huge possibilities when it comes to good paying jobs, economic development, and education. This commission would bring the stakeholders together to prepare the laws we would need to pass and ensure that the needs of the ratepayer are met by this renewable energy source. We know that by exploring new energy sources, we are taking steps to protect and preserve our environment. However, we are also positioning New Hampshire to take full advantage of the associated economic expansion that comes with the development of the industry.”
