CONCORD - Today, the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee voted 5-0 in support of SB 496-FN with an amendment presented by Senator David Watters (D-Dover) and Senator Chuck Morse (R-Salem). As amended, the bill sets up a fund for municipalities to help finance remediation projects in response to PFAS contamination in both drinking water and wastewater treatment.
After the vote, prime sponsor Senator David Watters (D-Dover) issued the following statement:
“This bill takes a critical step in our fight against PFAS contamination in both our drinking water and our wastewater treatment. I am grateful to the hard work done by the Municipal Association, the Department of Environmental Services, the Treasurer, the Attorney General, and my fellow senators in coming up with language that works in the best interest of New Hampshire. By allocating $50 million in credit from the state we are setting up a long term solution that helps alleviate the financial burden of remediation from our municipalities.”
