CONCORD - Today, the Senate voted 14-10 in favor of SB 583, Senator David Watters’ bill to add climate and environmental science to the criteria for an adequate education. This legislation recognizes that climate and environmental issues are part of the sciences that are already taught, and teachers should include them in their curriculum. This bill will ensure that these subjects are part of the education that teachers are providing for the students and it will be up to the local school board to implement it.
After the vote, prime sponsor Senator David Watters (D-Dover) issued the following statement:
“Ensuring New Hampshire students are given comprehensive education in climate and environmental science, will create a more informed population capable of making conscious choices in favor of a healthier environment. Our students represent our future; we should all be focused on giving them the necessary tools and information to take over as leaders who build a brighter future for all of us.”
