Senate Reacts to Governor’s Veto of HB 365

CONCORD—Today, Governor Sununu vetoed HB 365, relative to net energy metering limits for customer generators.

“With his veto pen, Governor Sununu is holding New Hampshire back from making progress on clean energy jobs, lowering electric rates and property taxes, and building a better future for our children,” said Senate Majority Leader Dan Feltes (D-Concord). “Governor Sununu’s veto is a big win for out-of-state fossil fuel interests and a big loss for New Hampshire families, businesses, and communities.”

Senator Martha Fuller Clark (D-Portsmouth), Chair of the Senate Energy Committee, added: “I am deeply disappointed in the governor’s decision to veto HB 365. The Governor is wrong. HB 365 would actually save rate payers money by reducing transmission costs which is where the greater increase in our energy bills has occurred. And by increasing the size limit in on customer-generators that may participate in net energy metering from one megawatt up to but not including 5 megawatts, HB 365 would allow communities to take charge of their own energy futures. The current net metering limit is a barrier to existing and small renewable energy projects that keep our energy dollars in state, provide good-paying jobs, and save local property tax payers money.

I urge the Legislature to continue supporting this critical bill that lowers energy costs for everyone by growing distributed energy and insulating all New Hampshire ratepayers from electric price volatility and higher transmission costs.”
