CONCORD—Today, the New Hampshire House of Representatives passed SB 285. This bill establishes a coastal resilience and economic development program and derives from the work of the Coastal Risk and Hazards Commission, whose final report was released in 2016. SB 285 passed the Senate in March.
Prime sponsor Senator Watters (D-Dover) released the following statement after the vote:
“We know changing weather patterns will significantly impact New Hampshire’s coastal communities—that’s why I’m proud to lead the Legislature’s efforts to help those towns and cities prepare and plan for those effects. I commend today’s House vote in support of SB 285, which gives municipalities, regional planning commissions, historic preservationists, and NHDOT an important toolbox to address storm surge, sea-level rise, and extreme precipitation.”
