CONCORD—Today, the New Hampshire House of Representatives passed SB 11-FN, on a voice vote. This bill will address the emergency room boarding crisis in our state. SB 11-FN passed the Senate unanimously in February.
Senator Tom Sherman (D-Rye), prime sponsor of SB 11-FN, released the following statement after the vote:
“New Hampshire used to be a leader when it comes to mental health; unfortunately, our system has steadily eroded as the demand for services has outpaced the capacity to provide them. We can’t wait any longer to reverse this trend.
SB 11-FN will help rebuild our mental health system by addressing the emergency room boarding crisis right now and ensuring that New Hampshire citizens have access to the mental health care they need, when they need it, in facilities designed to meet their needs. As we work through the budget, we will ensure rates are accurate and sufficient to support the initiatives outlined in SB 11-FN.
I am pleased with today’s strong, bipartisan votes and look forward to continuing to address our state’s mental health crisis with the Legislature and Governor Sununu.”
