CONCORD—Today, the New Hampshire House Science, Technology and Energy committee held a public hearing on SB 285, establishing a coastal resilience and economic development program. The legislation is the product of the Coastal Risk and Hazards Commission, whose final report was released in 2016; it passed the Senate in March.
Prime sponsor Senator David Watters (D-Dover) released the following statement after the hearing:
“It’s widely accepted that changing weather patterns will impact New Hampshire’s coastal communities and the Legislature should do all we can to help those towns and cities prepare and plan. SB 285 is an important next step to give municipalities, regional planning commissions, historic preservationists, and NHDOT a toolbox to address storm surge, sea-level rise, and extreme precipitation.”
