CONCORD—Today, the New Hampshire House Health, Human Services and Elderly Affairs committee held a hearing on SB 4, relative to the group and individual health insurance market. This legislation would codify into state law protections for people with preexisting conditions and essential health benefits.
Prime sponsor Senator Dan Feltes (D-Concord) released the following statement after the hearing:
“With the Trump administration’s continued efforts to dismantle the Affordable Care Act, it is more important than ever for New Hampshire to safeguard the health and wellbeing of Granite Staters. SB 4 codifies into state law protections for people with pre-existing conditions and essential health benefits, including maternity and newborn care, mental health and substance use disorder services, and prescription drugs.
Senate Democrats are strongly committed to protecting access to quality, affordable health care. Unfortunately, Governor Sununu has ignored our requests for the State to join a nationwide lawsuit to protect the Affordable Care Act. As such, this bill is our best course of action to give New Hampshire citizens the peace of mind that they can get the care they need, when they need it—regardless of what happens at the federal level.”
