CONCORD—Today, the House Children and Family Law voted unanimously, 16-0, in support of SB 6-FN-A-L, relative to child protection staffing and making an appropriation therefor. SB 6 passed the Senate unanimously in February and would address the current staffing shortage at DCYF to bring caseload levels in line with the national standard. On Monday, the New Hampshire Division for Children Youth and Families advisory board voted unanimously to back the measure, which appropriates funds to hire an additional 57 caseworkers and 20 supervisory staff over the next two years.
Prime sponsor Senator Jon Morgan (D-Brentwood) released the following statement after the committee vote:
“New Hampshire children can’t wait any longer for the state to fulfill our responsibility to protect their safety and wellbeing. We must act now to protect our most vulnerable citizens – by increasing staffing levels and reducing caseloads, that’s just what SB 6 will do. I hope the full House of Representatives will join the Children and Family Law committee and my Senate colleagues in supporting it.”
