Senator Morgan Introduces SB 272, Ensuring Mental Health Parity Under Insurance Laws

CONCORD—Today, Senator Morgan introduced SB 272, relative to mental health parity under the insurance laws. SB 272 authorizes the insurance commissioner to enforce the Paul Wellstone and Pete Domenici Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act of 2008 and requires the commissioner to examine and evaluate health insurers, health service corporations, and health maintenance organizations for compliance.

Senator Morgan released the following statement after the hearing:

“If we are going to effectively address New Hampshire’s mental health crisis, we cannot continue to allow insurance companies to treat patients who need access to mental health services any different than a patient having a heart attack. It’s time to treat these patients equitably – that’s why I’m proud to introduce SB 272 to ensure mental health parity in our state.”
