John Garvey is our candidate in Senate District 8.
John is a father, husband, Navy veteran, attorney, mediator, author, and educator. He is an Eagle Scout who has dedicated himself to his family, his community, and to building bridges between people.
An attorney with over 35 years of experience, John is currently a nationally recognized professor at UNH School of Law, where he directs an alternative bar program called the Daniel Webster Scholar Honors Program. In addition to working with his UNH Law students, John teaches negotiation in two leadership programs at the Nelson A. Rockefeller Center for Public Policy at Dartmouth College. He is a highly regarded mediator and arbitrator and the lead author of a nationally published text on negotiation and alternative dispute resolution.
John came to New Hampshire in 1981, after serving on active duty in the Navy JAG Corps. From the moment he arrived, he has been an active and involved Granite Stater. For the last 20 years, John has lived in New London with his wife, Cotton Cleveland. Together, they raised six children, who all graduated from Kearsarge Regional High School.
