RELEASE: Senate Democratic Leader’s Statement on Failure of Governor Sununu to Secure Additional Funding to Combat the Opioid Epidemic

CONCORD – Just days after Governor Sununu traveled to Washington to meet with President Trump about the opioid crisis, the Trump Administration announced that it will not revise the funding formula used to determine the allocation of Opioid State Targeted Response grants. The Trump formula does not allocate aid based on need, leaving New Hampshire and other states most impacted by the epidemic without needed resources. In response to the announcement, Senate Democratic Leader Jeff Woodburn (D-Whitefield) released the following statement:

“It’s disappointing that Governor Sununu’s loyalty to President Trump can’t be translated into getting results for New Hampshire. Our state is on the frontlines of the opioid epidemic, and we need our governor to take a stand against this administration to fight for the needs of our first responders, healthcare professionals and communities.”

“Governor Sununu has repeatedly failed to secure federal resources to address this crisis, even as he condemns the efforts of our state’s federal delegation to secure additional aid. I urge Governor Sununu to take a stand for New Hampshire and negotiate with the Trump Administration to secure more resources for our state.”
