RELEASE: Senate Democrats Statement against New Hampshire’s Voter Suppression Law

CONCORD – Today, Governor Sununu signed Senate Bill 3, legislation that creates the potential for voter suppression in New Hampshire, despite widespread public opposition and without a public signing ceremony. Senate Democratic Leader Jeff Woodburn (D-Whitefield) issued the following statement after passage:

“It’s a sad day when the Governor of  New Hampshire, a state with an outstanding reputation for election integrity and citizen participation in our democracy, endorses legislation that assumes the worst about our voters and stands to turn eligible voters away from the polls,” said Senate Democratic Leader Jeff Woodburn (D-Whitefield). “This legislation is like throwing a stink bomb in our voting booths. There simply is no evidence to indicate that New Hampshire has a widespread voter fraud issue.”

“There are a lot of reasonable steps we can take to further strengthen our election system. Creating an infrastructure to chase down voters and turn our polling places into gated communities is not one of them. I am disappointed that the Governor continues to feed into President Trump’s unfounded claims instead of sticking up for the integrity of our election system and our people.”
