Senator Donna Soucy Statement on Northern Pass Proposal

Concord – Senator Donna Soucy (D-Manchester) issued the following statement in response to the “Forward New Hampshire Plan” announced by Northern Pass earlier today:

“In a changing energy market, supply stability is among our state’s top economic concerns,” said Senator Soucy. “The Northern Pass ‘Forward New Hampshire Plan’ represents a commitment to providing this sought-after stability and diversity by investing in clean, renewable hydroelectricity. Thanks to Eversource for listening and providing a balanced approach to this project – to meet our energy needs and provide long-term benefits to our state.”

“Businesses like Velcro, Segway and Globe Manufacturing, to name a few, are the engine that drives our state’s economy. But, like all businesses they require lower energy rates to stay competitive and create good-paying local jobs. We’ve seen far too many companies consider leaving for states with lower energy costs.  The ‘Forward New Hampshire Plan’ will deliver millions in savings to ratepayers, large and small, keep our top employers from leaving, and encourage employers to expand and grow jobs.”

“Clean energy construction projects are the future of ‘green jobs’ inNew Hampshire,” continued Soucy. “The Northern Pass project will create an estimated 2,400 jobs ranging from construction to hospitality. This plan includes a provision to hire New Hampshireworkers, ensuring that Granite Staters benefit directly.”

“I am especially pleased that the plan includes a commitment to create an innovative electrical workers training program to educate workers now and in the future.”
