Concord – Senator Lou D’Allesandro (D-Manchester) released the following comments after Governor Hassan’s announcement that she has directed the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to restore funds for a rate increase for nursing homes:
“The Governor’s announcement is great news for the state and is a wonderful example of what we can accomplish when we work together to find alternative solutions,” said Sen. D’Allesandro. “The Governor, HHS, and the House Finance Committee should be commended for finding the way to provide nursing homes with the funds that they would have received through a rate increase for Fiscal Year 2014 in the most responsible way possible.”
The Governor announced that the plan would provide nursing homes with $3.9 million representing the total that they would have received through a rate increase for Fiscal Year 2014, while using a larger-than-expected surplus from the Choices for Independence program to ensure a balanced budget.
“It has not been easy to ensure a balanced budget in the last fiscal year and we have been forced to make tough decisions in order to keep the budget balanced,” added Senator D’Allesandro. “As we move forward with the rest of the budget process, I hope that my colleagues will keep this alternative plan in mind as an example of what we can accomplish when we all work together across party lines to find creative solutions.”
