Senator Kelly and Representative Whittemore Applaud the Passage of SB40
CONCORD – State Senator Molly Kelly (D-Keene) and Representative Lisa Whittemore (D-Londonderry) released the following comments on House passage of Senate Bill 40 which addresses a technical error that caused school districts to rely on incorrect funding figures in creating their 2013 budgets, which passed by a vote of 302-34.
“Senate Bill 40 makes a very small fix to address a technical error that caused cities and towns to rely on the wrong set of figures in creating their 2013 budgets. Without quick action on this correction, the citizens’ of cities and towns could potentially face a higher tax bill,” said Senator Molly Kelly.
“Today’s passage of SB40 with wide bipartisan support is a great demonstration of government working for the people, putting the needs of our communities, schools and the students first. I applaud the Senate for their quick action and my colleagues in the House as well,” said Rep. Whittemore.
Senator Kelly and Representative Whittemore introduced SB40 at the request of a number of citizens’ of cities and towns across the state. At the public hearings on the bill, they explained that this bill corrects a technical error that would have a negative impact on taxpayers and students in 77 cities and towns. SB40 represents another example of Senate Democrats and Republicans continuing to set a bipartisan tone in addressing problems with common sense solutions.
